Research before you register
Buying Expired & Aged Domains: Acquisition Guide
A good domain can still become a bad purchase if the acquisition process is misunderstood. Separate the research decision from the mechanics of bidding, backordering or registering.
Confirm status first
Identify whether the domain is available, expiring, pending delete, auctioned or already owned by a seller. Each status has a different path.
Choose the acquisition mechanism
Ordinary registration is simplest when available. Auctions allocate by bidding. Backorders attempt to secure a future drop. Private purchases require seller and transfer diligence.
Budget beyond the bid
Include auction fees, renewal price, transfer requirements, escrow where relevant and the cost of research tools.
Do not let the clock replace diligence
Time pressure is common in auctions and drops. Complete the history, backlink and brand checks before committing to a maximum price.
